Anim18 VR GALLERY
A Virtual World of British Animation
ANIM18 VR GALLERY
Explore our brand new VR experience: a bespoke virtual gallery filled with an exciting range of British animations that you can you see, hear and even feel.
Working in partnership with Derby QUAD and V21 Artspace, we’ve developed the VR Gallery to celebrate and showcase British animation through emerging technologies. It features animations from each of our four strands: Young at Heart, Politics and Persuasion, Breaking Boundaries and Connections. You’ll find newly commissioned work created during the season, which has sought to engage with artists and participants from a range of backgrounds including the d/Deaf community.
Featured Artists: Anushka Kishani Naanayakkara, Ian Gouldstone, Jessica Ashman, Kate Sullivan, Leeds Animation Workshop, Leo Crane, Noriko Okaku, Osbert Parker, Pixelheads (National Videogame Museum), Ruth Coggins, Samantha Moore, The Light Surgeons, plus the winner of the first ever AniJam UK.
WHERE CAN I TRY IT?
TELL ME MORE
At the beginning of Anim18, we asked the question:
How do we present short animations in new and engaging ways?
We wanted to create something immersive and innovative, allowing the viewer to explore animations in creative ways and at their own pace. We teamed up with Derby QUAD and V21 Artspace to make this happen, and developed a brand new VR experience.
The space within the VR Gallery has been digitally captured from the real-world gallery at QUAD and transformed into a 3D explorable space using the Unreal engine. In the virtual world, we can reinvent the space in unlimited ways. Screens can fill the walls, sounds can change with your movements, and elements can pop up in the air.
The VR Gallery will have a life beyond the Anim18 programme, where it can grow, shape and develop through participatory engagement and curation.
